Jessica Ketola, Lead Pastor
Jessica is the Lead Pastor of the church and strategically guides the mission and vision of the church as a whole, develops leaders and oversees spiritual formation for the community. Jessica has been passionate about the church most of her life - challenging the status quo, exploring what it means to truly follow Jesus and pushing into holistic ways of being the church. Jessica is on the instructional team for Leadership in the New Parish Certificate at The Seattle School of Theology & Psychology, a practitioner think-tank to equip leaders in reimagining missional innovation & church revitalization in the neighborhood, and serves as Board Chair of Turning Point, a non-profit birthed out of our faith community serving underserved youth and families. Jessica has also completed Sustainable Faith's School of Spiritual Direction and loves exploring the movement of God in the lives of others. Jessica is an artist and brings her creativity to her community in many ways and has been a worship leader and songwriter for over 25 years. Jessica and her husband, David, have four grown children and live in Shoreline working for the good of their neighborhood.
Carrie Cates, Pastoral Team
Carrie Cates is an artist, a preacher, a pastor and a liturgist and adds her passion, her depth, and her creativity to The Practicing Church community. Carrie received her Master of Divinity and MA in Theology & Culture from The Seattle School. She is currently working as a spiritual care resident (chaplain) at Harborview Medical Center. Artistically, Carrie has been active in Seattle theater for over 10 years and most recently produced and performed her one-woman show, "The Snare," in Atlanta, Seattle, and Raleigh. She is passionate about her own craft as well as fostering creativity in others. She is especially enthusiastic about creating space for artists within the church. In her free time, Carrie enjoys playing the mandolin in the two-woman singalong cover band Bones of My Foremothers and delighting in the antics of her cat Ricky Sprinkles.
David Ketola, Pastoral Team
David Ketola is a pastor, counselor, and the beating heart of our community. David is passionate about creating a welcoming space for all where people are free to drop the facades and to be their authentic selves. To this end, David offers warm hospitality at our gatherings and neighborhood dinners, facilitates spiritual direction groups for men, and enjoys connecting one on one over a good pint of beer. David received his Master of Counseling & Psychology from The Seattle School and in his private practice is passionate about the work of integration, helping lead Men's Intimacy & Sexuality Groups. David also works as a network engineer at AT&T, is an avid biker, outdoor enthusiast, and father of four.
Dr. Rose Madrid Swetman, Pastor Emeritus
Rose is our Pastor Emeritus, having led as Lead Pastor for almost 20 years and now serves on the teaching team. Currently, Rose is the Regional Leader for the Northwest Region of Vineyard USA and provides oversight and encouragement for Vineyard churches throughout Washington, Oregon, and Northern California. She is the Founder of Turning Point, a non-profit birthed out of our faith community serving at-risk youth and underserved families. Rose holds a Doctor of Ministry Degree from Bakke Graduate University in Seattle, WA, focused on Transformational Leadership for the Global City and wrote her dissertation on The Practicing Church. Rose teaches Leadership as an adjunct professor at The Seattle School of Theology and Psychology. She is married to Rich and they have a blended family of eight children, their spouses and at this count, twenty-two grandchildren!
